The Geoffrey Ogram Memorial Research Grant provides funding for innovative projects that can advance knowledge and improve outcomes in lung cancer. The program welcomes research across the continuum from basic, high-impact discovery to translational work with direct clinical relevance, including biomedical, clinical, health-services, social, and population-health research.
For 2026, particular emphasis is placed on early detection of lung cancer, including screening and blood-based testing, as well as research investigating lung cancer etiology among different demographic groups, especially light former smokers and people who have never smoked. Projects with direct practical relevance to Canadians affected by lung cancer will be prioritized.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must qualify as researchers who are autonomous in their research activities and hold an academic or research appointment.
- The eligible appointment must begin by the effective date of funding.
- Investigators must be permitted to supervise trainees where applicable and publish research results.
- Applicants must comply with their institution’s regulations regarding research conduct, trainee supervision, and employment of staff supported through the grant.
- Fellows may apply provided they are supervised by a primary investigator who meets the program’s definition of an independent researcher.
- New researchers and investigators conducting pilot, basic-science, or proof-of-concept projects are strongly encouraged to apply.
- The official guidelines do not state a specific nationality restriction; however, projects with direct practical relevance to Canadians with lung cancer will receive priority.
Funding Details:
- Up to two grants of CAD $25,000 each will be awarded in 2026.
- Funding supports the direct costs of a defined research program.
- Wages may form part of the project budget, but the award is not intended to function as a fellowship.
- Indirect costs/overhead are not eligible.

- The award must be accepted within 15 working days of the offer.
