Bowel Cancer UK Early Diagnosis Pilot Grant 2026

Bowel Cancer UK Early Diagnosis Pilot Grant 2026

Due Date: 03/18/2026

Bowel Cancer UK has opened its 2026 Early Diagnosis Pilot Grant scheme, inviting researchers to submit applications focused specifically on innovations in bowel cancer screening and early detection. The scheme is designed to fund novel, preliminary research ideas with the potential to drive meaningful change in diagnosing colorectal cancer at the earliest and most treatable stages. Currently fewer than 40% of bowel cancer patients in the UK are diagnosed at stages I and II, and this program is targeted at closing that gap. Funding of up to £50,000 is available for projects of up to 12 months. Patient and public involvement is strongly encouraged, and the charity’s Research Network can connect applicants with patient representatives.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Open to researchers at all career stages working at eligible UK institutions
  • The project must focus on bowel (colorectal) cancer early diagnosis and/or screening
  • Applications must be submitted via the charity’s online system, Flexigrant
  • Applicants must demonstrate relevant expertise and access to appropriate research facilities
  • Patient involvement in the research design is strongly encouraged but not strictly mandatory

Funding Details:

  • Up to £50,000 total per project
  • Project duration up to 12 months
  • Funds cover standard research costs (personnel, consumables, etc.)

Deadline:

  • 18 March 2026 at 11:00am GMT
  • Submission via Flexigrant online system
