
AACR Trailblazer Cancer Research Grants for Mid-Career Investigators
The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) has announced the 2025 Trailblazer Cancer Research Grants, designed to support mid-career investigators at a pivotal point in their research journey. These grants aim to fund innovative, exploratory, and paradigm-shifting projects that advance our understanding of cancer biology and improve patient outcomes.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must hold a PhD, MD, or equivalent and be at the rank of Associate Professor (tenured or equivalent) by the grant start date of December 1, 2025. They must have received their first NIH R01 or equivalent award no earlier than December 1, 2015, and maintain independent lab space at an academic, medical, or research institution. AACR Active Membership in good standing is required. There are no citizenship restrictions, but applicants must be legally authorized to work in the host institution’s country for the full duration of the grant.
Funding at a glance:
Grants provide 1,000,000 USD over three years to support a wide range of research expenses, including salaries (limited to 20% of the total budget), research staff and trainees, supplies, equipment, and publication fees. Indirect costs are not permitted. An additional $2,000 can be allocated to attend the AACR Annual Meeting’s Grantee Recognition Event.
