Early-career investigators in thoracic oncology are invited to apply for LCFA/IASLC grants supporting translational clinical-oncology research with near-term impact on lung cancer care. Projects may span early detection, molecular diagnostics, risk assessment, therapy selection, minimizing toxicity, and improving outcomes in early-stage or metastatic disease. Special consideration is given to studies poised for rapid clinical translation, benefiting underrepresented populations, or improving access to care.
Eligibility Criteria:
- 
IASLC membership required and must be maintained throughout the grant term.
 - 
Doctoral degree (PhD, MD, DO, PharmD, ScD or equivalent).
 - 
Academic rank at Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor (full professors not eligible).
 - 
No current/previous LCFA grant.
 - 
May not hold an independent R21, R01, DOD (or comparable) award; not a PI/Co-I on NIH multi-component P/U series; not a PI of a peer-reviewed grant ≥$125,000 direct costs/year for ≥3 years from listed peer-review organizations (mentored K-type or similar career awards are allowed).
 - 
Physicians: within 7 years of completing residency/fellowship.
 - 
Laboratory scientists: within 7 years of completing postdoc.
 - 
Exceptions to the 7-year window may be granted for documented career interruptions (request prior to submission).
 - 
Institutional commitment of ~50% professional effort to research for the applicant.
 - 
Investigators with tobacco-industry funding are ineligible.
 
Funding Details:
- 
$100,000 per year for up to 2 years; Year 2 contingent on satisfactory progress and available funds.
 - 
Up to 50% of the budget may be used for applicant salary and fringe.
 - 
No indirect costs allowed.
 - 
No permanent equipment purchases allowed.
 - 
Maximum travel allocation: $1,000 per year.
 - 
Grants are awarded to individuals (not transferrable); budget changes require prior approval.
 - 
Human subjects projects must provide IRB approval and consent forms by grant notification.
