The three-year Medical Oncology Fellowship at Aga Khan University, East Africa, is the first of its kind in the region, offering advanced clinical and research training in adult medical oncology. The program aims to produce academic oncologists skilled in evidence-based cancer care, research, and leadership to improve oncology services in sub-Saharan Africa.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent degree.

  • Master’s degree in Medicine or equivalent postgraduate qualification.

  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council or equivalent body in the applicant’s home country.

  • Minimum of four years of post-internship experience.

Funding Details:

  • Duration: Three years.

  • Fellows receive comprehensive clinical training in inpatient and outpatient oncology, with rotations in hematology, radiation oncology, supportive and palliative care, and elective opportunities locally or abroad.

  • Includes on-call duties, academic activities (tumor boards, journal clubs), and structured research rotations in the Cancer Research Unit (CRU).

  • Fellows must publish at least two peer-reviewed research papers during training.

  • Successful completion leads to the award of “Clinical Fellow in Medical Oncology” from Aga Khan University.
