Three-year awards from the AGA Research Foundation to protect early-career faculty time (≥50% effort) for high-impact research in digestive diseases. Five awards available; each provides $100,000 per year (total $300,000).
Eligibility Criteria:

MD, PhD, or equivalent and a full-time faculty (or equivalent) position at a North American institution (U.S., Canada, Mexico) by July 2026.

Early-career status: ≤7 years since GI fellowship completion (MD/equivalent) or ≤7 years since PhD conferral (allowable exemptions for documented leaves).

Any research type relevant to digestive disorders (clinical, translational, basic).

AGA membership at submission and maintained throughout the 3-year term.

Must have a sponsor (e.g., division chief/department chair) and a mentor (one person may serve both).

Applicants to RSA are ineligible for AGA fellowship-to-faculty transition awards in the same cycle.

Not eligible if holding/have held NIH K01/K08/K23/K99/R00/R01/R21/R29, VA CDA, or comparable non-federal awards; prior K12/KL2 allowed (active K12/KL2 must end before RSA start).
Funding Details:

Total: $300,000 over 3 years ($100,000/year).

Allowable: PI salary/benefits; research staff; biostatistics; supplies/animals/materials; equipment ≤$5,000/year; travel ≤$1,500/year.

Not allowed: mentor salary/support; indirect costs.

Annual scientific and financial reports required; years 2–3 contingent on satisfactory progress.

Overlap policy: if a comparable award is received, may need to choose one; after first payment, up to 50% of remaining RSA may be retained with prompt notice.

Strong institutional commitment letter required (protected time, space/facilities, reporting). Mentor letter must outline a concrete development plan.
