
MRes + PhD Programme in Cancer Biology
The MRes + PhD Programme in Cancer Biology at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre trains the next generation of cancer leaders through an integrated Master’s‐then‐Doctorate pathway, combining multidisciplinary laboratory rotations, intensive coursework, and clinical exposure.
Course Structure

Duration: 1 year MRes + 3 years PhD (fully funded)

Year 1 (MRes):

Two 15-week laboratory rotations
-
Weekly “Lectures in Cancer Biology and Medicine” + 1 week intensive genomic medicine
-
1–2 weeks clinical shadowing at Cambridge University Hospitals

Progression to PhD:
-
Formal assessment of rotations (lab performance, written & oral reports)

Final MRes viva based on PhD proposal
