
DoD FY25 Rare Cancers Resource and Community Development Award (RCDA)
Supports the creation of shared research resources and clinical/preclinical data platforms for rare cancers (≤6 cases per 100,000/year in the U.S.), with emphasis on patient-advocate partnership, community building, data dissemination, and long-term sustainability.
Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant Organizations: Extramural or intramural U.S. or foreign academic institutions, biotechnology companies, foundations, DOD laboratories, and other public or private entities (for-profit and non-profit).

Principal Investigator: Independent investigator at or above assistant-professor level (or equivalent) by award activation.

Research Sites: Non-profit academic, medical, or research centers (U.S. or abroad). For-profit institutions may collaborate but cannot receive funds.

Patient Advocate Partnership: Must include at least two rare-cancer patient advocates as integral team members from project conception through execution.

Resource Focus: Development of data/reagent/model repositories, centralized databanks, patient registries, “Omics” databases, or longitudinal study platforms applicable across multiple rare-cancer subtypes.

No Clinical Trials: Observational clinical research permitted; interventional trials are excluded.
Funding Details:

Amount: Up to 1.12 million USD total cost (direct + indirect)

Term: Maximum period of performance 4 years; funds expire September 30, 2031

Allowable Costs: Personnel, supplies, equipment, limited travel, data-sharing infrastructure; indirect costs per negotiated rates; no tuition or clinical-trial expenses .
