Helena Kremer highlights a major step forward for cancer care in Brazil, as the government announces plans to build a new Oncology Complex integrated with the National Cancer Institute (INCA) in Rio de Janeiro:

Brazilian Government announces plan to create an Oncology Complex in Rio de Janeiro

On April 17th, the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, announced the construction of an Oncology Campus integrated with the National Cancer Institute (INCA), located in Rio de Janeiro.

The announced investment is of R$1.1 billion, and it is an initiative articulated between public and private sectors. The goal is to integrate the Oncology Units of INCA, which are located in several neighborhoods in Rio, as well as to improve infrastructure and offer more hospital beds, procedures and surgeries. Construction work is due to start until the end of 2026.

This comes as a response to increasing numbers of cancer diagnosis and longer waiting times for patients to access appropriate Oncology care in both the city and the State of Rio de Janeiro.”
