Kathryn Hitchcock Is Named Associate Director for Access and Opportunities at UF Health Cancer Center

UF Health radiation oncologist Kate Hitchcock, has been appointed as the associate director for Access and Opportunities at the UF Health Cancer Center.

In this position, she will leverage her extensive experience in clinical trials and healthcare to train the next generation of cancer researchers, equipping them to drive progress in the field.

Kathryn Hitchcock, is an assistant professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at UF Health.

Dr. Hitchcock earned her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Wyoming. She then obtained a master’s in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the University of Cincinnati, where she also completed her medical degree.

After her education, Dr. Hitchcock completed an internship in internal medicine and a residency in radiation oncology at UF Health. She is board certified by the American Board of Radiology and is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Radiation Oncology, the American Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology, the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Radiological Society of North America.

Dr. Hitchcock has clinical experience across various disease sites and has received multiple awards for her contributions, including the Medical Student and Community Education Award and the Society of Teaching Scholars Outstanding Resident Educator Award.

In this role, she will use her expertise in leading clinical trials and broad range of health care experience to help the center train the next generation of cancer researchers, preparing them to lead advancements in the field.

‘Dr. Hitchcock will fulfill a critical role of examining all the ways we can increase access for people from a range of backgrounds to enter the cancer research enterprise, whether they are faculty, trainees, community members, or external advisors,’ said Jonathan Licht, director of the UF Health Cancer Center.
