Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu: Cervical Cancer Elimination Consultative Meeting in Addis Ababa
Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, Global Cancer advocate, UICC President-Elect of 2024-2026 and Founder of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I am attending the Cervical Cancer Elimination Consultative Meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, convened by Africa CDC.
The aim is to set a strong foundation for Africa’s fight against cervical cancer. Leaders, technical experts, and stakeholders are gathered to review progress, share innovations, and chart a continental roadmap towards eliminating cervical cancer by 2030.
At the opening session, I shared my reflections as Chairperson of the First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC NIGERIA) whilst reaffirming our collective commitment to this cause. The country- experiences shared, including that of Nigeria, give us great hope. We must continue to focus on the 3 pillars of vaccination, screening, and early treatment to eliminate cervical cancer.
The energy and determination in the room are a testament to the continent’s resolve to meet WHO’s 90-70-90 targets. I commend the NCD team at the ACDC for convening us.
Together, we are taking bold steps to end cervical cancer as a public health problem in Africa. Looking forward to what the next days will bring!”
