Highlights from SIOP 2024 Congress Day 4: 19 Posts Not To Miss
The 56th Congress of the ‘Societe Internationale d’Oncologie Pediatrique’ (SIOP) was held from October 17-20, 2024 in Honolulu, Hawaii, US.
The SIOP 2024 Annual Congress in Hawaii marked a significant milestone for the organization, providing a unique opportunity to engage with North American institutions, including the Children’s Oncology Group. Its proximity to South-East Asia and Oceania enriched the event with valuable insights from these regions.
The congress featured a comprehensive scientific program focused on global pediatric oncology, emphasizing cooperative research from the PARC programme and updates on the WHO Global Initiative on Childhood Cancer. The event served as a platform for presenting cutting-edge research, fostering new ideas, and advancing careers in pediatric oncology. Attendees also enjoyed the distinctive charm of Hawaii as a host destination, enhancing the congress’s global outreach and collaborative spirit.
Here are some highlights from SIOP 2024 Congress Day 4:

“Without any doubt, one of the best moments of SIOP 2024 was to see Estela Prada receive the Schweisguth Prize. If you were there sure you were impressed by her research in Rhabdomyosarcoma, but also by the way she communicated it, with passion and an extraordinary mind. I feel a genuine admiration and gratitude that researchers like Estela exist.”
“Aloha everyone
The 56th Congress of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology – SIOP in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, was held under the inspiring slogan: ‘No child should die of cancer: cure for more, care for all.’
A total of 2,338 people attended the congress in Honolulu, marking the event with the highest number of abstract submissions to date. Among these submissions was a singular entry from Romania titled ‘Fragmented Hope: The Mosaic of Pediatric Cancer Care in Romania,’ (co-authors: Carlos Rodriguez-Galindo, Rob Pieters and Ruxandra Vidlescu) which I submitted and was accepted for online publication in the Pediatric Blood and Cancer Online Journal, the official journal of SIOP.
Many colleagues from my master’s program in global child health from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital also presented their abstracts, and I am incredibly proud of them. It was a week filled with inspiration.
We live in an effervescent world where research and innovation bring immense hope to children with cancer and their parents, as well as to the dedicated medical teams.
See you at SIOP 2025.”
