Local control and toxicity after stereotactic radiotherapy in brain metastases patients

Elisabetta Bonzano, Radiation Oncologist at IRCCS San Matteo Polyclinic Foundation, posted on X about recent paper by Paul van Schie et al., titled “Local control and toxicity after stereotactic radiotherapy in brain metastases patients and the impact of novel systemic treatments” published on Science Direct.

Authors: P. van Schie, R.G. Huisman, T. Wiersma, J.L. Knegjens, A. Navran, D. Brandsma, A. Compter, M. Bot, J. Hoogmoed, P.C. de Witt Hamer, R. Post, G.R. Borst

Local control and toxicity after stereotactic radiotherapy in brain metastases patients

“Local control and toxicity after stereotactic radiotherapy in brain metastases patients and the impact of novel systemic treatments.

Systemic treatment combined with radiotherapy provides better local control.
Toxicity was not increased in patients using immunotherapy or targeted therapy.
Chemotherapy and targeted therapy were shortly discontinued around irradiation.
Large brain metastasis diameter does not affect local control; does affect toxicity.
Further research is needed to clarify the relationship between sCRN and individual types of targeted therapy.”
