Nisreen Qatamish at the POEM Group 4th Scientific Meeting: KHCF’s Bold Vision for Equitable Cancer Care

Nisreen Qatamish, CEO at King Hussein Cancer Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Since the very beginning, we at the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center made a clear and conscious choice: to be the VOICE OF THE VOICELESS.

In a region DOUBLE BURDENED BY POLITICAL CONFLICTS AND INSTABILITY, where cancer patients—especially children—face FINANCIAL, SOCIAL, and SYSTEMIC BARRIERS, we chose to stand with them. We chose HOPE, DIGNITY, and ACCESS.

At the POEM Group 4th Scientific Meeting, I had the privilege of sharing our story with an inspiring group of global oncology leaders from 36 countries.

I spoke about how KHCF has worked relentlessly to overcome the BARRIERS that prevent many from accessing LIFE-SAVING CANCER CARE.

To meet our promises, we developed INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS AND STRATEGIES, including:

POLICY ADVOCACY: We believe that to make a real impact, CANCER CARE MUST BE EMBEDDED AS A CROSS-CUTTING PRIORITY in public policies—from HEALTH and EDUCATION to SOCIAL PROTECTION and ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. We work tirelessly to HUMANIZE PUBLIC POLICIES, ensuring that cancer is not sidelined, but prioritized across all sectors.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH: We confronted the TABOOS and NEGLECT surrounding cancer with AWARENESS and COMPASSION. We mobilize COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS to spread knowledge, working in SCHOOLS, UNIVERSITIES, WORKPLACES, and beyond. From CITIES to VILLAGES, we are determined to ensure NO ONE IS LEFT BEHIND.

GOODWILL FUND (GWF): Through our GOODWILL FUND, we provide critical support to UNDERPRIVILEGED, DISPLACED, and REFUGEE CANCER PATIENTS from regions like PALESTINE, SYRIA, YEMEN, SUDAN, IRAQ, and others severely impacted by political conflict. This fund allows us to ensure that TREATMENT WITH DIGNITY is accessible to those most in need, regardless of their background or circumstance.

CANCER CARE INSURANCE: To ensure SUSTAINABLE FINANCING, we launched a NON-PROFIT, COMMUNITY-BASED CANCER CARE INSURANCE PROGRAM. This innovative program, now serving over 200,000 SUBSCRIBERS, provides financial protection to patients, ensuring they receive the LIFE-SAVING TREATMENT they deserve, year after year.

Together, we can create a world where no one’s access to cancer care is determined by their wealth, background, or the political climate of their country.

At KHCF/C: we are not just treating cancer. We are fighting for JUSTICE, DIGNITY, and a future where CANCER CARE IS A RIGHT, NOT A PRIVILEGE.”
