Nirmala Bhoo Pathy: How Cancer Stigma Hurts Patients and Families in Malaysia
Nirmala Bhoo Pathy, Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at University Malaya, shared a post on LinkedIn by Cancer Matters Malaysia, adding:
“How much heavier is the burden of cancer made by stigma? It doesn’t just silence patients. It isolates families, delays care, and deepens suffering. So, let’s talk about how stigma shapes the lives of people with cancer and what we can do to change it!”
Quoting Cancer Matters Malaysia’s post:
“When we think of cancer, our minds often jump to treatments, survival rates and hospital corridors filled with hope and despair. But there’s another battle that many Malaysians with cancer face, one that’s quieter, invisible and equally damaging: stigma. Dr. Nirmala Bhoo Pathy shares further on how cancer stigma hurts patients and families in Malaysia.”
