Mehrnaz Shamalnasab: Raising awareness for prevention and early detection for colorectal cancer
Mehrnaz Shamalnasab, Scientific Project Manager at IARC – International Agency for Research on Cancer, posted on LinkedIn:
“Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancer types worldwide. By 2040, the global burden of colorectal cancer is expected to rise by 63%, with the number of deaths increasing by 73%. Additionally, cases of early-onset colorectal cancer diagnosed in individuals under 50 are rising, underscoring the urgent need for greater awareness of its causes and improved early detection.
In DISCERN, we are dedicated to identifying the genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors driving colorectal cancer. Our work aims to improve prevention strategies, and advance scientific understanding of this complex disease.
By deepening our knowledge of colorectal cancer, particularly its increasing prevalence in younger adults, we can move closer to more effective interventions and better patient outcomes.
We invite you to join us in raising awareness and advocating for prevention and early detection research for colorectal cancer. Together, we can make a lasting impact.”
