Markus Kosch: Discussing Gender disparities in healthcare at World Health Summit
Markus Kosch, the head of Oncology Europe at Daiichi Sankyo, shared on Linkedin:
”At the World Health Summit 2024, we discussed one of the most critical issues of our time – gender disparities in healthcare. I had the honor to participate in a panel on women’s health – a cause that is close to my heart.
As someone fortunate to be surrounded by strong women my entire life, including my mother (the first in her family to become a physician ), to my wife (a paediatrician), and my two independent daughters, I feel inspired to actively push for greater equality in healthcare. The challenges women face are significant:
Financial barriers that limit access to care.
Unpaid caregiving responsibilities that stretch them too thin.
Underrepresentation in leadership roles within the healthcare sector Yet I truly believe that together, we can turn the tide by implementing solutions like:
Patient-centric policies that put women’s needs first, e.g. governmental funding of genetic testing for breast cancer.
Better access for women to therapies for cancer and cardiovascular diseases
Enabling equal access to education to undermine power asymmetries and ensure equal representation of women Thanks for the inspiring keynotes and discussions, Fatima Cardoso, Penilla Gunther, Rhonda Sealey-Thomas, Melinda Crane-Roehrs, Marzia Zambon, Sunao Manabe.
The time for action is now. Let’s turn our commitment into real impact for women’s health.
What are your ideas to make this happen? Let me know in the comments!”
