Link Between Allergies and Lower Lung Cancer Risk – Lung Cancer Europe

Lung Cancer Europe shared a post on LinkedIn:

“New research highlights a link between allergies and lower lung cancer risk. A 2025 meta-analysis published in Frontiers in Medicine examined data from 10 studies involving nearly 3.9 million people.

It found that individuals with allergic rhinitis (hay fever) had a 26% lower risk of lung cancer (OR 0.74, 95% CI 0.64–0.86).

The authors suggest this may reflect enhanced immune surveillance, but also note variation by sex and allergy type. For example, eczema showed a protective effect only in men. This adds to emerging evidence that the immune system’s role in cancer development may be more complex than previously thought.”
