Siobhan Freeney Calls on Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill to Mandate Breast Density Reporting
Siobhan Freeney, Founder at Lobular Ireland, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“With gratitude to OncoDaily for sharing our Irish Campaign for Mandatory Breast Density Reporting for Women who have Mammograms in Ireland.
Only this week BreastScreen Australia made a landmark policy change to Mandate for Standardised Breast Density Reporting for Women all across Australia Congratulations!
There can be no further obfuscation on this issue. Withholding this information from Women in Ireland, causes delays in Breast Cancer Diagnoses due to inappropriate levels of Imaging for those Women who have Dense Breasts, compounded by the absence of shared informed decision making.
Women in Ireland are demanding to be told their Cancer risk factors, including their Breast density as determined by having a Screening Mammogram. We have proven evidence based studies reporting almost 50% of Women in Screening Populations have Dense Breasts and therefore are at a greater risk of developing Breast Cancer.
We’re calling on the Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill to engage with us on this before the Dáil breaks for Summer recess and we’re asking for cross-party Ministerial Support for a Bill introducing Mandatory Breast Density Reporting in Ireland.”
