Gustavo Viani, Associate Professor at the University of São Paulo, shared on LinkedIn:
” I am thrilled to announce the publication of our recent study on male breast cancer in São Paulo State, Brazil.
This work would not have been possible without the dedication, collaboration, and expertise of our amazing team.
Objective:
This study analyzed clinicopathological characteristics, treatment trends, and overall survival (OS) in male breast cancer (BC) patients in São Paulo State.
Methods:
• Data from 907 male BC patients diagnosed between January 2000 and June 2020 were collected from Fundação Oncocentro de São Paulo, covering 46 million residents.
• Patients were described by age, education, clinical stage, and treatment modalities.
• Survival analysis was performed using Cox proportional hazards regression and Kaplan-Meier curves.
Results:
• Age at diagnosis: 21.5% under 51 years, 51.5% between 51-70 years, and 27% over 70 years
• Cancer stages: Stage I (19.5%), Stage II (36.6%), Stage III (31.5%), and Stage IV (12.3%)
• 5- and 10-year OS by stage:
• Stage I: 87.9% and 77.8%
• Stage II: 79.9% and 58.9%
• Stage III: 51.6% and 24.5%
• Stage IV: 20% and 5.6%
• Postoperative radiotherapy significantly high OS (HR 0.67, p < 0.001).
• The most significant predictor of OS was stage at diagnosis.”
