“NEW FINDING: Relapsed head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) unrelated to HPV infection carries a poor prognosis; researchers are searching for novel approaches.

A team at CCR led by Claudia M. Palena, Senior Investigator in our Center for Immuno-Oncology, performed a study to evaluate the chemokine receptors CXCR1 and CXCR2 as potential novel targets for the treatment of HPV-negative HNSCC. They showed that inhibiting the two receptors, combined with chemotherapy, may be effective against HIV-negative HNSCC.
