Africa Builds Its Own Cancer Atlas – CancerWorld
CancerWorld shared a post on X:
“Africa Builds Its Own Cancer Atlas.
In oncology today, precision medicine is only as precise as the DATA behind it. Yet, LESS THAN 2% of genomic data used in cancer research comes from African populations. That gap is a global blind spot.
Now, a bold initiative is changing the narrative.
Yemaachi Biotech, a Ghana-based company, is leading The African Cancer Atlas (TACA), a landmark effort to sequence 15,000 cancer genomes across the continent.
With support from over 25 hospitals across 9 African countries and early backing from Roche, TACA aims to:
- Improve treatment outcomes for African patients
- Empower local researchers with cutting-edge genomic tools
- Uncover new insights that benefit all cancer patients worldwide
