Carmen Uscatu: When do we know that we are on the right track?

Carmen Uscatu, President at Give Life, shared a post on LinkedIn: .

“When do we know that we are on the right track?

Prof. Dr. med. Stefan M. Pfister‘s research focuses on the genetic and epigenetic characterization of childhood brain tumors using next-generation profiling methods and translating new findings into a clinical context.

Stefan Pfister has made significant contributions to the study of the molecular genetic properties of childhood brain tumors, which play a role in their development and spread. His research group has identified previously unknown genetic changes that contribute to the formation of brain tumors, including mutations that can be targeted for therapy and those indicating hereditary cancer. Pfister also played a key role in developing a new classification of brain tumors, now widely accepted by the World Health Organization.

This work is supported by an AI-based method developed by Stefan Pfister and colleagues from Heidelberg, used globally for brain tumor classification. Methylation analyses form the basis for providing optimal therapy to brain tumor patients. In 2016, Pfister initiated the founding of the Hopp Children’s Cancer Center Heidelberg (KiTZ), integrating cancer treatment and research for children and adolescents under one roof in Germany for the first time.

Yesterday and today, Ramona Cirt and her colleagues from Marie Curie Hospital were visited by Prof. Stefan. Part of the neuro-oncology team, including laboratory, radiotherapy, oncology, neurosurgery, and neurology, gathered to discuss the future of neuro-oncology in Romania.

How do we know that we are on the right track? Prof. Stefan Pfister emphasized the importance of ensuring that every patient has the best team. Evaluating a hospital as good or bad should be based on the patient’s journey.

A multidisciplinary approach and comprehensive care are essential for patients. How can we achieve this? It’s a journey that lies ahead of us.
An inspiring journey with these remarkable individuals around us.”
