Shahrin Ahmed raises awareness on Melanoma skin cancer cases rising in UK

Shahrin Ahmed, Medical Specialist at Canadian Cancer Society, made the following post on X:

Melanoma skin cancer cases rising in UK.

As the number of cases of melanoma skin cancer continues to rise in the UK, the warning is issued to people to take more steps to protect themselves from the sun.

The annual average of 19,300 between 2020 and 2022 is expected to be higher than expected, with Cancer Research UK predicting a record 20,800 cases diagnosed this year.

The aging population and increased awareness of skin cancer signs are contributing factors to the increase in diagnoses. According to the report, approximately 17,000 melanoma cases are preventable, with almost 90% of them being caused by excessive UV radiation.

The skin cancer known as melanomas is a severe type that can spread to other regions of the body. In England, almost 90% of adults diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer will survive their disease for 10 years or more.

Keep following the instructions to keep Yourself and others safe from Skin Cancer.

Sun safety tips:

1. Spend time in the shade between 11am and 3pm.

2. Never burn.

3. Cover up with suitable clothing (including a wide-brimmed hat and long-sleeved top) and sunglasses.

4. Take extra care with children.

5. Use at least factor-30 sunscreen regularly.”
