Ravi Parikh: Can longitudinal remote monitoring of symptoms and activity predict outcomes in cancer?
Ramy Sedhom shared a post by Ravi Parikh, Director of Human Algorithm Collaboration Lab, on X/Twitter:
“Amazing Supportive Care in Cancer work by Ravi B. Parikh, Chris Manz, and Human Algorithm Collaboration Lab.
Looking fwd to seeing more presented at ASCO24.”
Quoting Ravi Parikh’s post:
“New Human Algorithm Collaboration Lab paper in JMIR Publications: Can longitudinal remote monitoring of symptoms and activity predict outcomes in cancer? We show cross-sectional and longitudinal patterns in accelerometer-derived steps and text-based PROs strongly associated with hospitalization and/or death.
Lots of neat work spurring from this trial and effort! We are working on some pretty cool methods-based work how to interpret missingness in longitudinal patient-generated data (hat tip Ian Barnett Emily Schriver, Dept. of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics), some of which was highlighted in this paper.
We’re also interested in clinical decision-making. Check out Chris Manz and Victor Moreno oral prez ASCO, ASCO24: ‘Prospective and external validation of an objective performance status (OPS) in patients with metastatic solid malignancies using wearable accelerometry.’
Work could inform remote patient monitoring program design in cancer and beyond. Lots of leaders in the RPM space in cancer, including Julian Hong, Alexi Wright, Bobby Daly, Kate Rendle, Sam Takvorian, Penn Cancer Innovation, Thyme Care, Jasper Health + others. Great time to collaborate!”
