Theodore DeWeese: Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is older than the Constitution

Theodore DeWeese, Dean of the Medical Faculty and Chief Executive Officer of Johns Hopkins Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Somebody’s celebrating a very big birthday! Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is older than the Constitution. The hospital opened in 1774 as an almshouse to treat the poor.

Johns Hopkins Bayview has been growing and evolving ever since, always with a focus on the uniqueness and dignity of each individual patient. They have a lot to teach the world about emphasizing the human side of medicine (one of my personal passions).

Today, Bayview’s nationally-ranked programs include rheumatology and geriatrics, with stellar programs in bariatrics, behavioral health, and lung cancer treatment. Facilities include a level II trauma center, a neonatal ICU, and the region’s only adult burn center.

Under the leadership of Jennifer Nickoles, the 6,000-member team is known for being collaborative, compassionate, and community-minded; for guiding the next generation of health care leaders; and for leveraging research and technology to meet societal needs (like improving the health of our aging population and being there for those who suffer from mental health and substance use disorders).

Check out their anniversary page here, and join me in wishing everyone at Johns Hopkins Bayview a happy 250th. ”
