Manoj Reddy: IOWG Grand Rounds – Movement and Music Therapy
Manoj Reddy, Founder and President of IOWG, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Movement is Medicine
Exercise has long been an afterthought in conventional Oncology care but must now come to the forefront. Study after study showing outcome improvements in not only quality of life but also DFS and OS.
The latest is a landmark study by Dr. Kerry Courneya and colleagues- the Challenge study – a randomized study of a structured adjuvant exercise program after adjuvant chemotherapy led to a 37% reduction in risk of death and 7% improvement in overall survival at 8 years.
The results are comparable to adjuvant chemotherapy. congratulations to Dr. Courneya and colleagues! 10.1056/NEJMoa2502760
A structured exercise program must become a standard adjuvant treatment option for Colon Cancer patients. Movement is Medicine. As oncologists, we must educate all stakeholders- fellow oncologists/clinicians, third-party payers, and our patients, and add structured exercise as standard to our armamentarium of chemoimmunotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery.
At Integrative Oncology Working Group (IOWG), we understand the importance of movement and exercise in cancer care. We proud to have had Dr. Courneya as a speaker at two of our prior grand rounds.
This Sunday, our topic is Movement and Music Therapy – join us.”
