Tanja Spanic: ESMO Breast 2025 Was a Powerful Moment for Patient Advocates

“Grateful. Inspired. Energized. This year’s ESMO Breast25 was truly special!
I feel incredibly honoured to have contributed to a meaningful and forward-thinking conference, bringing together clinicians, researchers, and patient advocates to shape the future of breast cancer care.I had the privilege of speaking in two key sessions. The first was Survivorship, sex, and side effects, where I gave a talk on Patient perspective: Meaning of survivorship for patients. My heartfelt thanks go to all the speakers in this session for such an open and important discussion on quality of life, intimacy, and life beyond cancer.
The second session, Novel techniques in small tumours, gave me the opportunity to present on Understanding the extent of the disease.
It was truly inspiring to see how innovation and technology are coming together to improve diagnostics and outcomes.After some uncertainty, we finally welcomed a new edition of BCY (Breast Cancer in Young Women) — a topic especially close to my heart.
Huge congratulations to the amazing chairs Matteo Lambertini and Shani Paluch-Shimon, and to the entire faculty.
And of course, I must mention my dear friend Jennifer Merschdorf, who gave an excellent overview of the initial results from Project 528.A heartfelt thank you to all the inspiring speakers, colleagues, and fellow patient advocates who made this event so memorable.”
