Cures in Crisis: What Gutting NIH Research Means for Americans with Cancer, Alzheimer’s and Other Diseases – AACR
American Association for Cancer Research shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Senators Tammy Baldwin and Peter Welch hosted a forum today titled “Cures in Crisis: What Gutting NIH Research Means for Americans with Cancer, Alzheimer’s, & Other Diseases.”
The event featured researchers, patients, and former NIH Director Monica Bertagnolli, discussing the negative impact of recent NIH disruptions on scientific progress and patient care.
One of the panelists, Larry Saltzman, a leukemia patient and retired physician, shared his story from the AACR Report on COVID-19 and Cancer, emphasizing the vital role of NIH-funded clinical trials in saving lives, especially during uncertain times.”
Alique Topalian, Research scientist specializing in Survivorship and Supportive Services at the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center, reshared the post on LinkedIn, adding:
“This was an incredible session to watch.
My husband heard me in my office listening and said it sounded like I was watching the “Advocacy Super Bowl” and that’s exactly what it was.
Monica Bertagnolli and Larry Saltzman thank you for using your voice to advocate for cancer survivors and early career investigators such as myself. You all brought me to tears and inspired me with your stories. I feel as though my voice was heard and represented through you all.
Thank you for your advocacy!”
