Oliver Henke: Kick-starting our new project, FAST-ABCD
Oliver Henke, Working Group Leader at the University Hospital of Bonn, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Kick-starting our new project FAST-ABCD (fast and accurate diagnostic of breast cancer using nanopore sequencing) at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center (KCMC).
This project is funded by Hospital Partnerships funding programme between the Working Group Global Oncology, the University Hospital of Bonn (Universitätsklinikum Bonn) (UKB-GO), KCMC and DKFZ German Cancer Research Center.
This non-inferiority study will compare the diagnostic gold-standard (immuno-) histopathology with nanopore-sequencing in a real-world clinical setting. Our focus is not only the accuracy of results but also the time to diagnosis, which lies in Tanzania at around 4 weeks with pathology.
This delays treatment start significantly and patients often commute many times forth and back from home to the cancer center which is a financial burden for most patients. We aim to diagnose within 2-3 days!
More information on this study.
Thanks to all colleagues and collaborators to make this happen! Maximilian Rost Priscus Mapendo Innocent H. Peter Uggh(MD) Furaha Serventi Alex Mremi and many others!”
