Nirmala Bhoo Pathy: Cancer care is more than just medicine, it’s about people
Nirmala Bhoo Pathy, Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at the University of Malaya, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Life has a funny way of working things out. When I was way younger, I aspired to write cool medical stuff for the papers, maybe even as a celebrity columnist! Well, I’m now a columnist… whether a celebrity, that’s up for debate.
Jokes aside, I’ll now be regularly writing for Cancer Matters, Malaysia’s first-ever cancer news portal, launched by the National Cancer Society Malaysia on our World Cancer Day celebration. It’s a space for real conversations on cancer, beyond medicine, beyond hospitals, beyond what we usually talk about.
For my first piece, I wrote about what truly drives me: looking beyond the hospital walls and recognizing the human side of cancer… the struggles, the resilience, and the realities we often overlook. Because cancer care is more than just medicine, it’s about people.
