Melanie McCullough: Cancer truly doesn’t discriminate

“Passionate. Compassionate. Genuine. A true heart for making a difference. All of these describe the one and only Dick Vitale, who returned to his seat courtside at the Duke-Clemson basketball game tonight after facing and overcoming four types of cancer in the last four years.
I have never met a more passionate or genuine person. After first working with him during my days in sports information at Duke, I had the chance to see his true generosity and passion through our work together for The V Foundation for Cancer Research.
One could hear his passion tonight as he exclaimed, ‘That arrow didn’t dive for the ball!’ But I saw his real passion up close as he worked to raise millions of dollars to help fight cancer. To have to face so many attacks from the disease himself shows that cancer truly doesn’t discriminate.
