“Advancing Equity in Cancer Research: Dr. Susanna Fletcher Greer’s Vision for 2025.
Dr. Susanna Fletcher Greer, Chief Scientific Officer at the V Foundation for Cancer Research, continues to lead efforts in advancing impactful cancer research as we move into 2025. Building on the foundation’s remarkable success in raising over $75 million to address cancer health inequities, Dr. Greer is dedicated to supporting research that not only develops effective cancer treatments but also ensures they are accessible to all communities. A notable example is the work of Dr. Catherine Marshall at Johns Hopkins University, who uncovered a critical link between PARP inhibitors commonly used in advanced prostate cancer treatment and an increased risk of acute myeloid leukemia due to clonal hematopoiesis. This discovery highlights the pressing need for equitable access to genetic testing and long-term monitoring, particularly for underserved populations.
Dr. Greer’s leadership emphasizes the importance of funding high-risk, high-reward research aimed at addressing disparities in cancer care and improving outcomes for every patient. Her vision for 2025 focuses on fostering innovative scientific discoveries and translating them into meaningful advancements in cancer treatment and prevention.
