Mila Ogalla Toledo: A lovely and remarkable way to close out 2024

Mila Ogalla Toledo, Patient Advocate, posted on LinkedIn:

“What a lovely and remarkable way to close out 2024.

As this year comes to an end, I’m filled with gratitude for the incredible opportunities and the wonderful people I’ve had the privilege of meeting.

I’m forever honored and grateful for the platform I was given, and for the privilege to discuss the issues that are so close to my heart, alongside Digestive Cancers Europe, Youth Cancer Europe, OAC Outdoor Against Cancer, and OncoDaily.

This year has reinforced my belief in the power of support systems, community, and patient advocacy in driving real change.

Key highlights from my session in the inaugural event of the Global Cancer Movement, initiated by OncoDaily:

  • The emotional and physical challenges of being diagnosed with cancer as an AYA.
  • The critical role of Patient Advocacy in improving cancer care and raising awareness.
  • The incredible work and advocacy initiatives led by Youth Cancer Europe, Digestive Cancers Europe, and OAC Outdoor Against Cancer to ensure that AYAs have a voice.
  • The call for a more personalized and survivor-centered approach to treatment.

Oh, how important it is to embrace life, its beauty, its chaos, and its rambunctious energy.

Thank you.”

Mila Ogalla Toledo was diagnosed with colorectal cancer at 26 years old, an experience she described as a devastating shock that upended her life. At a time when she was beginning her career and embracing independence, the diagnosis forced Mila to put her personal goals on hold. Mila now works to challenge the stigma surrounding cancer by fostering open conversations. Her goal is to raise awareness and provide others with the information, support, and resources she found lacking during her own treatment and recovery.
