“Yesterday, I attended The State of AI in Precision Oncology 2024 hosted by AI in Precision Oncology.
The energy in the room was palpable, fueled by the shared excitement around the transformative potential of AI in healthcare.
It’s truly hard for me to wrap my head around the change that is coming.
Debra Patt, MD PhD MBA opened the summit with a thought-provoking keynote.
I especially appreciated her emphasis on how AI can enhance supportive care improving responsiveness to depression screenings and triaging patients based on social determinants of health (SDOH) risks.
She also addressed the critical challenges posed by biased data, underscoring the need for accurate and representative datasets.
Dr. Lee Hood, a true pioneer in the field, painted a vivid picture of the future—one where data not only delivers the right treatments at the right time but also empowers us to create personalized prevention plans tailored to each individual’s unique characteristics.
Sanjay Juneja, M.D. Juneja shared a heartfelt vision of how technology can reduce the burden on clinicians, enabling them to focus on what drew most of them to medicine: face-to-face patient care. \
His passion for unburdening the system resonated deeply.
Caroline Chung highlighted the importance of good data, reminding us that more data isn’t the goal—it’s about the right kind of data to make impactful decisions.
Finally, Douglas Flora, MD, LSSBB, FACCC Flora moderated the event with whit and wisdom, reminding everyone that keeping the patient at the center of these advancements is paramount.
This summit reinforced the importance of collaboration and innovation as we harness AI to reshape oncology care.
