David Shulkin: Telehealth regulations expire at the end of December
David Shulkin, Ninth Secretary, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Telehealth regulations expire at the end of December. The CMS 2025 Physician fee schedule was finalized and without new legislation there will be no extension of pandemic-era telehealth waivers.
With 12 days left for Congress to be in session this year, there’s not a lot of time to act. The Bipartisan Telehealth Modernization Act of 2024 (H.R. 7623 and S. 3967) and the connect for Health Act (H.R. 4189 and S. 2016) would extend telehealth flexibilities through 2026.
Telehealth was critical to our mission at VA and is essential for rural health, home-bound people, and behavioral health. There is strong evidence demonstrating the benefits and with bipartisan support for telehealth, this legislation is needed. Telehealth legislation pictured below at the White House demonstrating telehealth’s capabilities to President Trump.”
Karen Knudsen, Executive Strategic Advisor and Immediate Past CEO of the American Cancer Society (ACS), also reshared the post adding:
“100% agree, David Shulkin.
Having led a 16 hospital cancer operation across 2 states, I can’t emphasize enough the importance of telehealth in increasing access to expert, life saving care.
All boats rise with telehealth.”
