The 2024-2026 Young SIOG Governance Team

Young SIOG, the Young International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG), has recently announced its new Governance Team for the 2024-2026 term. This team is composed of emerging leaders dedicated to advancing the field of geriatric oncology and enhancing the representation of young professionals within the society.

Here is the Team for the 2024-2026 term:

• Fabio Gomes – Chair

Fabio Gomes is a Medical Oncology Consultant at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, where he serves as the Clinical Lead for Senior Adult Oncology and Clinical Director of Clinical Outcomes. His work focuses on improving care for older cancer patients, integrating geriatric assessments with oncology to enhance treatment outcomes.

In addition to his role at The Christie, Dr. Gomes is an active board member of the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG) and currently chairs the Young SIOG group, advocating for the advancement of geriatric oncology research and education.

• Nicolás González Senac – Vice Chair

Nicolás M. González Senac is a Geriatrics Specialist at Gregorio Marañón University Hospital in Madrid, Spain. He serves as Vice-Chair of the Young SIOG Governance Team.

He is also the Secretary of the Oncogeriatrics Working Group within the Spanish Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology (SEGG) and coordinates the SEGG Young Members Group. Additionally, Dr. González Senac is an Associate Professor of Nursing at CEU San Pablo University.

• Colm Mac Eochagain – YSIOG Member

Colm Mac Eochagain is a Consultant and Clinical Fellow in the Department of Haematology/Oncology at St. James’ Hospital in Dublin. His clinical interests include breast cancer, head and neck cancer, and geriatric oncology.

He is also a member of the Young SIOG (International Society of Geriatric Oncology), where he is involved in advancing care for older adults with cancer.

• Alicia Castelo Loureiro – YSIOG Member

Alicia Castelo Loureiro is a Medical Oncologist at the Jiménez Díaz Foundation University Hospital. She is also a member of Young SIOG (International Society of Geriatric Oncology), contributing to efforts in advancing geriatric oncology and improving cancer care for older patients.

• Filipe Coutinho – YSIOG Member 

Filipe Coutinho is a Medical Oncologist at Trofa Saúde and Local Health Unit of Médio Ave. He serves on the Oncology Commission and is also a member of the hospital’s Palliative Care Team.

Dr. Coutinho is serving as a National Representative for the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG) and a member of Young SIOG (YSIOG). He is an Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Geriatric Oncology and Geriatrics MDPI.

• Maya Abdallah – YSIOG Member

Maya M. Abdallah, MD, is a hematologist at Boston Medical Center and an Assistant Professor of Hematology and Oncology at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine.

Her areas of expertise include geriatric hematology and oncology, supportive care, and prognostic awareness. Dr. Abdallah is also an active member of Young SIOG.

• Mukul Roy – YSIOG Member

Mukul Roy is a Consultant in Radiation Oncology at Jaslok Hospital. Her areas of expertise include stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic radiotherapy for brain tumors, stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), RapidArc/Volumetric Arc Radiotherapy (VMAT), and deep inspiration breath hold radiation (DIBH).

Additionally, Dr. Roy is an active member of Young SIOG (International Society of Geriatric Oncology).

Alicia Castelo, Medical Oncologist at the Jiménez Díaz Foundation University Hospital, shared about her excitement on X:
