Emre Kocakavuk: I’ve been awarded an Emmy Noether Group by the DFG public

Emre Kocakavuk, Emmy Noether Group Leader and Clinician Scientist in Hematology/Oncology at Uniklinikum Essen, posted on X:

This is one of those days in life that words can’t quite capture!  I’ve been awarded an Emmy Noether Group by the DFG public with over €2M in funding!  Starting my own lab in Essen with a focus on Computational Oncology.

I want to take the time to thank my amazing mentors Christian Reinhardt, providing the great environment for me to thrive clinically and scientifically and Roel Verhaak, with whom I discovered my passion for computational biology and cutting-edge basic and translational research.

Grateful to many collaborators, including Joe Costello (UCSF), Nader Sanai (IBTC), Colin Watts (U Birmingham), Guido Reifenberger (U Dusseldorf) as part of the GLASS consortium and Henning Walczak (U Cologne) and Paolo Salomoni (U Bonn).

My path has been highly influenced by deep interactions with my cancer patients. We now want to better understand and target mechanisms of therapy resistance by focusing on longitudinal analyses and cancer evolution. Stay tuned – Postdoc and PhD positions will be available soon!”
