Guillermo Chantada: Trijn Israels at CANCaRe Africa and SIOP AFRICA doing a marvelous work

Guillermo Chantada shared a post by CANCaRe Africa on LinkedIn:

“A long-lasting project that brought the attention to the need of generating evidence for the treatment of children with cancer in LMIC when there is no evidence in a few minutes video.

Trijn Israels at CANCaRe Africa and SIOP AFRICA doing a marvelous work. This project was created by SIOP almost 15 years ago and is more important everyday.”

Quoting CANCaRe Africa’s post:

Local Evidence Campaign. Post #12: Guillermo Chantada and Trijn Israels

Equality, equity, reality…How can we help more children? We need to adapt and provide the best treatment we can. What is the local evidence for these measures?

We need to prove that our interventions work.

We invite you to watch this video with Trijn Israels and Guillermo Chantada, pioneers and co-chairs of the collaborative international initiative from SIOP Global Health Network (formally called SIOP PODC) which provided expert and pragmatic adapted treatment guidelines.

As an example we invite you to read “Clinical Guidelines for the Management of children with Wilms Tumour in a Low-Income Setting”.

It may help you to realize that children can be cured with limited resources including an ultrasound for diagnosis, a surgeon, a nurse, preoperative chemotherapy, and of paramount importance nutrition and social support.

You can find the SIOP PODC consensus treatment guidelines here.

Implementation has been associated with a significant increase in the survival of children with Wilms tumour in sub-Saharan Africa.”
