Nick Guldemond: We discussed the reconstruction of the medical infrastructure in Ukraine

“Today we discussed an important topic: the reconstruction of the medical infrastructure in Ukraine organized by the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.

In line with what director Hans Kluge from the WHO Regional Office for Europe said, I promoted the roadmap towards a resilient health system RC73Astana and referred to the work of my dear colleague Jarno Habicht:

1) resilient governance.
2) resilient health systems
3) resilient people

Collaboration with partners in the Europe region is key to benefit from our joint effort and expertise: this applies on a governmental level as well as the networks of NGO’s European Patients’​ Forum, European Health Union Initiative, professional associations and European umbrella organisations. Public-private collaboration is important but (financial/business) interests should be managed through proper supervision and public procurement strategies where the European Commission and related networks have a lot to offer. ”
