Zuzana Santamaria, Project Manager at European Society of Gynecological Oncology, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The European Society of Gynaecological Oncology Congress in Copenhagen is particularly meaningful for ESGOPrevention.
Six years ago, when I joined ESGO, one of my key missions was to support Murat Gultekin in establishing the ESGO Prevention Committee. Together, we set out with clear and ambitious goals:
- Facilitate systematic research and deliver regular high-quality scientific publications in prevention to address existing gaps.
- Disseminate evidence through conferences, courses, and webinars.
- Raise awareness and advocate for gynaecological cancer prevention in close collaboration with ESGO ENGAGe .
- Build strong collaborations with other professional societies to advance prevention and care globally.
Looking back today, I am proud to say the Committee achieved – and in many ways exceeded – these goals.
- The Committee work has been published in leading journals such as The Lancet Oncology, JAMA, and International International Journal of Gynecological Cancer (IJGC) of Gynecological Cancer, among others.
- The Committee webinars continue to attract high and steadily growing participation.
- The Committee organized several virtual conferences on cervical cancer elimination in Africa, aligned with the World Health Organization 90-70-90 global strategy.
- The Committee experts developed extensive educational materials for ENGAGe patients, supported Patient Advocacy Seminars, multiple webinars, and contributed to the global campaign WorldGynecologicOncologyDay.
Today also marks an important leadership transition. The founder and current Chair of the Prevention Committee, Murat Gultekin, is handing over to the next Chair, Elmar Joura.
It has been a privilege to work alongside Murat, and I very much look forward to implementing Elmar’s vision for the next chapter of ESGO Prevention.
And here in Copenhagen – today’s Colposcopy Workshop was a great success!
Don’t miss tomorrow’s Prevention Session from 09:00–12:00”
