Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, UICC President-Elect of 2024-2026, Founder and CEO of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The Commonwealth Health Coordination Forum in Geneva convened Health Ministers, senior government officials, cancer experts, advocates, and partners from across the Commonwealth to discuss the future of cancer control and cervical cancer elimination.
There were also important conversations around HPV vaccination and the role of innovation and digital systems in improving care delivery.
We heard from the Lancet commison Chair Rifat Atun as well as Miriam Mutebi, MD,MSc,FACS, who chairs the task force on cervical cancer.
It was encouraging to see Nigeria recognized in the Commonwealth Compendium of Country Case Studies on Cervical Cancer Elimination for its progress in HPV vaccination.
This was further demonstrated by the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu powerful message.
On its part, the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) gave an intervention encouraging the inclusion of civil society as well as forming formidable partnerships across the region.
The leadership the commonwealth has taken in shaping the future of cancer control across its member nations is truly commendable.”
