Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu: Nuclear Science and Cancer Care Take Center Stage in Vienna Discussions

Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, Senior Adviser at Federal Ministry of Health Nigeria, shared on LinkedIn:

“A Visit to Nigerian Ambassador In Austria

It was a joy to reconnect with my dear sister and friend, H.E. Dr. Florence Ajimobi, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Nigeria to Austria and the International Organisations in Vienna, during my recent the country.

We share the unique experience of having served as First Ladies, and are also united by our shared commitment to improving healthcare and cancer advocacy.

Another commonality we share, is overseeing medical diagnostic centers in Ibadan and Abuja. It was therefore productive that my visit coincided with that of Nigerian delegation who like me, were participating in the 70th International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference. Over dinner at the Nigerian residence, we shared a robust conversation about our work and how best we can all contribute to national growth. The guests included the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Dunoma Umar Ahmed, Chairman/CEO of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC).

Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin Ekedegwa, and my ABU classmate, Dr. Ya’u Idris, DG/CEO of Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA).

We had the pleasure of meeting at a dinner graciously hosted by the Ambassador and her warm, brilliant team. We all mused the peaceful uses of nuclear science and its role in health and cancer care.

Today, 17th September 2026 turned out to be a special day for Her Excellency as she formally presents her credentials to Alexander Van der Bellen, President of Austria is a proud milestone in her diplomatic journey and an important new chapter in Nigeria – Austria relations.

Your Excellency, thank you for the warmth, sisterhood and friendship that continue to connect us, even across different responsibilities and borders. I wish you a successful tenure as you represent our great nation Nigeria.

H.E. Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu
CEO, Medicaid Cancer Foundation
President – Elect, Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).”
