Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu: Building a Resilient Cancer Systems and Improving Outcomes for Patients

Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, UICC President-Elect of 2024-2026, Founder and CEO of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“The state of global cancer workforce is being illuminated as one of the most critical determinants of cancer outcomes. Once again, LMICs carry the highest burden of inadequate quality and quantity of human resources capable of addressing cancer.

The 2026 Lancet Oncology Commission on the Cancer Workforce projects that without urgent policies and investment, the global shortage of cancer professionals will deepen. In Africa, recent assessments show major gaps in cancer care capacity.

We must intensify training, improve renumeration and working conditions for essential workforce to build resilient cancer systems, and improve outcomes for cancer patients.”
