“The University of Abuja is a long-standing partner to us at Medicaid Cancer Foundation, strengthened by our visits and financial support to cancer patients, an MOU on childhood cancer awareness and other engagements. Thus it was with great enthusiasm I attended their cancer awareness program earlier this week, consistent with the value of sustained collaboration.
Following a visit to my office by the University of Abuja Women’s Association (UAWA), where they shared their plans and extended an invitation, I accepted to participate as Special Guest of Honour.
Platforms like this are important, particularly within a university setting, where engaging young people early can shape long-term health behaviours and improve outcomes.
In my remarks, I laid emphasis on the importance of strengthening cancer data systems. Reliable data is hard to find in our settings, despite the relevant part it plays for planning, improving care, and ensuring that interventions reach the populations that need them.
It was encouraging to see other high level women, including H.E. Barr. Chioma Uzodimma, Hajiya Bilkisu Kyari, and other ministers’ wives support the movement. Also present werethe Vice Chancellor Prof. Hakeem Babatunde, National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment, cancer survivors, and members of the organising committee. Their presence reflects a shared commitment to advancing awareness and strengthening community engagement.
Finally, I appreciate the wonderful ladies for the recognition presented. It is a thoughtful gesture and an inspiration to do more.”
