Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu on Cancer Awareness Outreach to Rural Fulani Women During Ramadan

Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, UICC President-Elect of 2024-2026, Founder and CEO of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, shared an article on LinkedIn:

“The month of March is focused on Women’s health. The most part of which happened to coincide with Ramadan and Lent fasting this year. It is the norm during this period, to engage in philanthropy to the less privileged amongst us. Giving usually takes the form of food, clothing and other palliative items.

During Ramadan just before the Eid holidays, we visited women in a rural Fulani community to give. We did not only give palliative items, but also prioritized the sharing of knowledge on hygiene and cancer awareness.

It was a basic, factual conversation, which helped the women to share their health challenges, creating an opportunity to provide guidance, basic support, and direct them towards appropriate care.

Our outreaches try to reinforce inclusion, collective responsibility, and the need to reach underserved communities where gaps in awareness and access will continue to shape health outcome in women.”
