Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, UICC President-Elect of 2024-2026 and a Founder and CEO of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I am deeply honored to be named among OncoDaily 100 Most Influential People in Oncology for 2025, a recognition reflecting the collective progress we have made in strengthening cancer care systems across Africa and globally. This acknowledgment is most appreciated.
As President-elect of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), I work with multiple organizations spanning different disciplines, countries and cultures, all with a common goal, to improve cancer control. However, I remain a strong champion for the needs of the Global South, where the cancer burden is enormous.
Indeed, one of the high points of the year for me was announcing that the World Cancer Leaders Summit 2027 will be held in Nairobi. A significant step to close many gaps. I greatly appreciate my growing networks across African countries such as Egypt, Algeria, Kenya, and Côte d’Ivoire, and I will be deliberate about forging stronger South–South collaborations.
Back home, through our MEDICAID CANCER FOUNDATION we had an impactful 2025, mobilizing people and resources to increase access to cancer prevention, diagnostics, and treatment.
Following a successful cancer planners’ forum in May, I had the opportunity to contribute to Nigeria’s soon-to-be-launched National Cancer Control Plan (2026–2030).
Overall, many hurdles remain, but we made remarkable progress that we will build on in 2026.
I sincerely thank OncoDaily and the entire team for this recognition and congratulate my fellow colleagues and leaders on this list for their remarkable contributions to the field of oncology. To my friend and the driving force behind the scenes, Gevorg Tamamyan -within a short space of time, you have built a platform to be reckoned with. Congratulations!”
