Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu: Patients and Survivors Provide Practical Insight into Care Pathways and System Gaps

Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, UICC President-Elect of 2024-2026 and a Founder and CEO of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“The inclusion of people with lived experience is central to effective cancer control. Patients and survivors provide practical insight into care pathways and system gaps that strengthen policy and program design.

My discussion with Eman Shannan a breast cancer survivor, highlighted the importance of structured patient participation in cancer advocacy and decision-making.

At Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), this approach is embedded in global cancer governance, with about 40% of member organizations being patient- or survivor-led, supporting more responsive cancer systems.”
