Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu: Early Detection is a Low-Hanging Fruit that Saves Lives

Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, UICC President-Elect of 2024-2026 and a Founder and CEO of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Although walk away cancer is our flagship program at Medicaid Cancer Foundation for October, our work includes community outreaches that dive deep into rural areas using the media and local languages to reach our market women, petty traders and other low income women.

A key highlight of the month was the launch of the FLAC Screening Clinic in Ogun State, a partnership with Roche that expands access to timely diagnosis and care using low cost interventions.

I joined my co FLAC members, Excellencies Bamidele Abiodun and H.E. BARR. CHIOMA UZODIMMA to launch our latest clinic located in a primary health center.

My ability to speak yoruba came in as a handy (probably funny) surprise to many, but helped me deliver the clear message that early detection is a low hanging fruit that saves lives.

Through such partnerships and other platforms like the Africa Breast Cancer Council, we move seamlessly from global stages to the grassroots. The entire month, we worked according to guidelines in the Global Breast Cancer Initiative, using a set of indicators that align diagnosis, policy, finance, and bridge inequities.”
