Yüksel Ürün: Patients Deserve Truth, Not Fear or False Hope Dressed as News

Yüksel Ürün, Medical Oncology Professor at Ankara University School of Medicine, shared Neha Vapiwala‘s post on X, adding:

“Perfectly said.

Evidence should guide care, not headlines. Patients deserve truth, not fear or false hope dressed as news.”

Neha Vapiwala, Eli J. Glatstein Endowed Professor and Dean of Admissions at University of Pennsylvania, shared a post on X:

“Our responsibility is to our patients, to ensure they’re well informed and to offer them safe, high quality care using the best available evidence. Media pieces can educate if they offer balanced perspectives rather than cherry-picked data serving a predetermined narrative.

The latter can be a disservice at best – danger at worst – to patients weighing treatment decisions during an already scary and confusing time. It’s important for all of us to speak up on our patients’ behalf, and, when necessary, ours.

Let the data speak and let the facts guide us.”
